New Hospice Volunteer Training Scheduled

Berea, Ky., 2 June 2014

We will host a training for new hospice volunteers on Saturday, June 21, from 9am to 4pm at our Compassionate Care Center in Richmond.

Our volunteers do a variety of tasks to help support patients, families, and our non-profit organization. From sitting with a patient so a caregiver can have a break to making a loaf of bread for a special event—they do it all!

The training prepares new volunteers for all aspects of hospice care: end-of-life care and issues, grief and loss, the role of spiritual care, communication, and more.

New volunteers may also choose to participate in specialized volunteer programs, including Teen Volunteers and the Vigil Volunteer Program. Teens must be at least 14 years of age. Vigil Volunteers are specially trained to be with hospice patients who are actively dying in nursing homes, but who have no family to be with them at the end.

If interested or for questions, please contact Julie Hatfield, volunteer coordinator, at 859-626-9292 or hospice@hospicecp.org. It is important to RSVP so enough refreshments and training materials can be provided.
