New Volunteer Training Saturday May 17

Hospice Care Plus is hosting an in-person training for new volunteers on Saturday, May 17, from 9:30 AM to 4:00 PM, at the Madison County Public Library in Richmond. Register today to secure your spot!

Lunch will be provided, as well as refreshments and plenty of breaks throughout the day.

Mariah Smith, volunteer coordinator, says the in-person, group training is a great way to meet other volunteers and to hear from some of our current staff and volunteers who will be sharing about their experiences and how you’ll be able to support the needs of patients and families.

“We have seen our new volunteers form strong and lasting friendships, especially when they train together, in person, and get to know each other.” says Mariah.

Making A Difference In Someone’s Life

Making a difference in someone’s life is easier than we sometimes think. At Hospice Care Plus, volunteers are literally the heart of what we do, providing a special kind of caring and compassion for our patients and their families in the communities of Estill, Jackson, Lee, Madison, Owsley, and Rockcastle counties.

At Hospice Care Plus, volunteers are at the heart of everything we do. Whether it is offering a listening ear, assisting with daily household activities, providing grief support, offering companionship, or sharing your skills, like gardening and landscaping, the hours our volunteers give can be the most rewarding experience of their lives.

How Our Volunteers Provide Support

Here are just some of the ways our volunteers provide support:

  • Patient & Caregiver Companionship: Offering presence, comfort, and a listening ear at the patient’s home or at our Compassionate Care Center.
  • Administrative Support: Help with office tasks that keep our mission running smoothly, whether it’s answering phones, greeting visitors, or supporting with bulk mailings.
  • Special Events & Fundraising: Assist in planning or our two special events, the Remembrance Tree Ceremony in December or the Derby Eve party in May.
  • Grief & Loss Support: Make calls to individuals and families who are walking through their healing journey.
  • Grounds Keeping: Lend a hand with gardening or outdoor upkeep at our Compassionate Care Center.
  • Special Skills: Share your gifts in art, music, handy work, photography or other talents.
  • We Honor Veterans program: Veteran Volunteers provide support to our veteran patients by showing appreciation for the patient’s military service, sharing stories and providing veteran-to-veteran companionship.

Who Should Attend This Training?

Our volunteers come from all walks of life. Some work during the day, some are retired, and others volunteer while attending school. Whatever your life and schedule allow, we can help you find an opportunity that works. Mariah says that, regardless of how much time you can give to volunteering: whether it’s 2 hours a month or 5 days a week, there is something that will fit everyone’s schedule.

Anyone ages 14 and up may train to become a hospice volunteer. Mariah says that summer is a great time to consider volunteering, especially for the teenagers in your life.

“Summer is the perfect time for teens to get involved and make a real impact in their community. We love seeing young people bring their energy, creativity, and compassion to our team, and volunteer hours look great on those college applications!”
