Scott Thompson has been announced as the new CEO at Hospice Care Plus.
At its December 10 meeting, the organization’s Board of Directors unanimously approved a resolution naming Thompson as CEO. He follows Gail McGillis, RN, MSN, who announced her retirement earlier this year after 26 years of service.
Hospice’s board initiated a CEO search in August. According to board president Donna Angel, after interviewing several strong candidates from around the country, Scott emerged as the most qualified choice.
“We agreed right away that he had the experience and preparation to lead us,” says Donna. “Just as importantly, he brings humility and compassion to his leadership style, which is essential for our organization.”
The fact that Scott resides in the organization’s service area was an important factor as well.
“It was appealing to us that Scott has called Mount Vernon home for his entire life, that he worked for so many years in Madison County, and that he’s very familiar with Estill, Jackson, Lee and Owsley counties as well,” says Donna. “His understanding of our service area, and his record of being very involved with and supportive of our communities, made him an even stronger candidate in our minds.”
Scott comes to Hospice Care Plus from Russell County Hospital in Russell Springs, Kentucky, where he served as CEO. Prior to that position, he spent 11 years at Saint Joseph Berea Hospital, holding several positions before being promoted to director of operations.
“Hospice has always held a very sacred place in my heart and mind,” says Scott. “During almost 30 years in healthcare, I have seen the impact these selfless individuals make in the lives of the people they serve. It will be an honor to move alongside the staff, volunteers, leaders, providers, board, and advisory members at Hospice Care Plus as they continue to honor and care for those who need us so much. I am excited for this opportunity and realize the weight of the responsibility and the blessings that will surely accompany it.”
Scott is currently in orientation with McGillis and will assume full CEO responsibilities at the end of December.
