Hospice Care Plus Becomes Compassionate Care Plus

For more than 40 years, we have been honored to care for patients and families across our community with compassion and dignity. Today, we are proud to share an important step forward in that journey as Hospice Care Plus becomes “Compassionate Care Plus”.
A Legacy of Compassionate Care
“While our name is evolving, our organization’s mission remains unchanged,” said CEO Lisa Cox. “Compassion has always been at the heart of everything we do.”
Since our founding in 1981 as Madison County Hospice, we have grown alongside the communities we serve. What began as a small, volunteer led effort serving approximately 40 patients a day out of the trunks of cars quickly expanded to meet increasing demand.
Between 1986 and 1989, services extended into five additional counties. As our reach grew, we became known as Hospice of the Kentucky River, and later adopted the name Hospice Care Plus in 1997 to reflect an expanding range of services beyond hospice care.
A major milestone came in 2008 with the opening of the Compassionate Care Center, the region’s only inpatient hospice facility. This expansion not only enhanced how care is delivered, but also shaped how our organization came to be known in the community.
“We began hearing people in our community refer to us simply as ‘Compassionate Care,’” Cox said. “The name change reflects what we are already known for and feels like a natural step that honors both our history and who we are today.”
Today, Compassionate Care Plus represents a broader continuum of support. While hospice care remains central to our mission, our services also include support for individuals and families navigating serious and advanced illness, grief and loss programs, caregiver support, community education and outreach. Across all we offer, our focus remains on enhancing quality of life for those we serve across Estill, Jackson, Lee, Madison, Owsley, and Rockcastle counties.

What to Expect
“This is not a rebrand or a departure from who we are,” says Stefanie Manes, Director of Community Engagement. “It is a thoughtful evolution that honors our history while helping us communicate more clearly who we are today.” As we transition to Compassionate Care Plus, you’ll notice that our logo and visual identity still feel very familiar.

“While our name is evolving, our design remains rooted in the recognizable elements our community has come to know and trust” says Manes.
As we share our new name today, the transition to Compassionate Care Plus will take place gradually throughout 2026. “This transition won’t happen overnight” says Manes. “you may see or hear both Hospice Care Plus and Compassionate Care Plus used interchangeably as we roll out this new name across our website, printed materials, and community presence. We will continue to operate as a community-based, nonprofit organization dedicated to serving patients and families with compassion, dignity, and respect.”
For the latest updates throughout our transition, we invite you to follow us on Facebook and stay connected as we continue sharing news, stories, and important information.
